The AICE Media Quiz involved shooting a series of thought-out photographs to depict a narrative about an inanimate object. My partner, Annie, and I decided to use a Stanely water bottle to be the subject of our storyline, the storyline follows the Stanley as it begins its day, then it gets dropped and falls on the floor, it then recalls its fondest memories with its owner and with that strength it can "regain consciousness", the owner picks it up, refills it with water, it "comes back to life" and continues to enjoy the rest of its day with its owner and friends. Our goal was to create an interesting piece that conveyed themes of nostalgia revival, and love through the sequence of images.
Annie and I began this assignment by outlining each shot we would take and the scenes we would create to convey the story we had made up. We left our class and went into the halls and the courtyard to capture the images (in a variety of different angles and types of shots) of Stanley's story, we inserted the slides into a PowerPoint and gave a summary of the kind of shot/ angle used as well as a description of why we used that shot/ angle which was usually to create a more dynamic piece and a deeper meaning.
I strongly believe that our team effort created a strong piece and an overall interesting and goofy story. The things that I loved the most about our piece was that the storyline was communicated through the slides, making the stanley's story of falling, reminiscing, and revival easy to follow, as well as each slide conveying the right emotion and understanding through the use of filters and varying brightness's in different photos. However, I do believe we could've maintained a better visual theme and consistency throughout the slides to better unify the images and reinforce the narrative as I do think the images, while focused on the storyline, lacked unity.
